A strong start to phonics in Reception! Our Reception children have made a fantastic start to their Read Write Inc. Phonics journey. They've been busy learning their first sounds and beginning to practise Fred Talk and oral blending - an essential step towards becoming confident readers. Reception parents – please check your emails today. We've sent home links to the RWI Virtual Classroom showing exactly what the children have been learning, along with simple ways you can support at home. Little and often really does make a difference! We're so proud of the start they've made!

Try Traditional Cumberland and Westmorland Wrestling! Looking for a fun, active activity for your child? Cumberland & Westmorland Wrestling welcomes girls and boys to come along for a FREE taster session! Tuesday evenings 6.30pm Falcon Club, Egremont Wrestling is great for fitness, confidence, friendships, emotional wellbeing and most importantly, it's fun! Parents/carers must accompany their child. Come along, meet the coaches, watch the session or even have a go yourself! No experience needed just wear shorts or tracksuit bottoms and a T-shirt. Free entry – just turn up! Another Friday, another chance to celebrate some of the wonderful things happening across Orgill! Our Over & Above children this week have been noticed for all sorts of reasons - fantastic effort, thoughtful choices, determination, kindness and simply being someone who makes our school a better place to be. The best part? Often, they weren't doing it for recognition. They were doing the right thing simply because it was the right thing to do. A huge well done to this week's stars - we are very proud of you!

Have your say about the future! The Children's Commissioner for England is inviting children and young people to share their hopes, ideas and priorities for the future through The Big Future. It's a chance for children to have their voices heard and help shape what they want life to look like as they grow up. In the Spring of 2018, the Department for Education (DfE) identified and invited 924 schools that met a number of eligibility criteria to apply to become an accredited English Hub as part of a new national initiative to drive up standards in literacy. In the Autumn of 2018, following a competitive application and selection process, the DfE announced that 34 schools across England had been identified to take on this role.
Orgill Primary School is very proud to be one of those Hub schools and we are excited by the opportunities that this offers to schools in Cumbria and wider areas.
